Archetypal Insights

What does the Luminations subhead mean by "Archetypal insights in Mythology and Healing Arts? And what do they have to do with each other?

Mythology is often considered synonymous with fiction, but in actuality, the mythical stories, images, and rituals have been representations of deep truths. They are predominantly metaphorical, but nontheless truthful in their revelations. They do not seek to portray provable "facts" about life, people, or history so much as look beyond the physical plane to see the deeper meanings and motiviations inherent in humanity, nature, and the divine. Healing Arts also seek to bring our focus beyond the physical plane, so that we go beyond our corporal bodies, into our energetic fields, our psyches, and our divine connection in seeking healing and guidance.

Many greats like Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell, and James Hillman have shown us how our stories reveal deep truths about life and ourselves. Jung popularized the term archetype to mean those concepts in the human condition that are common to all people. Archetypes include roles like mother, father, child, lover, as well as emotions or conditions like love, suffering, sacrifice, and the soulful journey we all experience in life. These archetypes show up in all parts of our lives, including our stories, media, dreams, diseases, hobbies, and behaviors. We will explore such archetypal concepts as we also continue to explore healing, personal improvement, and psychological and spiritual journey.
